Firm Spotlight: Calmwaters Cloud Accounting Shares Their Tech Stack

Mar 7, 2023 | Episodes

We had so much fun hanging out with Kellie Parks with Calm Waters! She joined us for a Firm Spotlight on February 28th, 2023.

A little bit about Kellie’s firm

Kellie has a micro booking firm; she has her monthly recurring clients but also enjoys taking on the “hot messes”. She wants everyone to love cloud-based apps as much as she does! Kellie mentioned that she has been working remotely since 2009 when the tech started taking off for cloud accounting.

Internal tech stack overview

Kellie’s internal stack includes Financial Cents, Acuity, Typeform, 17hats, and RightTool.  A few of the questions to keep in mind when choosing your internal stack are; “what are the core systems?” and “what are the internal tools?”  In Kellie’s words, RightTool creates the QuickBooks desktop efficiency that we love in QuickBooks Online. RightTool is a browser extension that automatically duplicates the tab for you. For example, when she opens a transaction in QBO and wants to go back to see details she was opening a second tab, but with RightTool it automatically duplicates the tab allowing you to have both tabs readily available for comparison.

All-in-all these are the tools Kellie showed us to help her with her internal workflows and processes! The apps help her serve her clients best!

External tech stack overview

Kellie’s External Stack includes Quickbooks Online, Dext, Plooto, and Rewind. A question to keep in mind when choosing your external stack is “how do you serve your client base?” Rewind is her backup app for QBO and also does a number of other programs. Rewind backs up e-commerce stores and websites. Rewind is the first thing she attaches to a client file. Backs up not just the entire file, but backs up each transaction specifically.

In this episode, we covered other apps as well and how she utilizes them. Be sure to watch this episode so you can learn how this tech stack works!
